The medieval walled town of Amelia is just a short drive away, as are the sightseeing delights of Umbria, Tuscany, Rome and Florence .There are plenty of activities on offer, from horse riding and pizza making to language courses and and wine tasting or, if you simply want to relax, we can offer reflexology, shiatsu, massage, reiki or yoga.
Interiors :
Upstairs are 5 large en-suite twin/double rooms which can sleep 2-10 people. The flexible bed combinations make it possible to use the bedrooms as 5 single/twins or 2 twins and 3 doubles. Each tiled bathroom has a toilet, bidet, sink and shower cubicle and one bathroom also has a bathtub. Downstairs there is another bathroom with a shower, toilet, bidet and sink. The fully equipped kitchen has its own fireplace and all the amenities required to cater for larger groups. It has a fridge/freezer and separate drinks fridge, large gas cooker and oven, microwave, blender, dishwasher and ample kitchenware. The large island in the middle of the kitchen makes cooking and socialising a must. The dining room is connected by arches to the kitchen on one side and the main living room on the other, creating a spacious open plan area with comfortable chairs and sofas. The building’s thick walls keep it nice and cool in the summer and there is a large fireplace and central heating for added warmth in the winter.Relax in front of the large open log fire in the cooler months, in comfortable surroundings with your books or listening to the stereo. There is a completely separate large sitting room on the ground floor with sofas, a dining area, stylish furnishings, books, satellite TV, video and DVD player, plus stereo.
Pool and Garden : Set among the walnut trees is a large pool measuring 14m by 7m and 1.40 metres deep, which is also used sporadically by the owners. Surrounding the pool are ample seating and sunbathing areas shaded in parts by a large pergola. The paved pool area is given its unique charm by the surrounding greenery and established trees, the view over the valley and a delightful terraced garden with several seating areas. There are plenty of places to explore in the grounds, with old Italian wine jars adding to the ambience. Below the pool there is a bocce court (a traditional Italian boules game). There is also a lovely courtyard centred around a wood burning pizza oven.
Distances from services : The house is close to the traditional medieval village and frontier fortress of Macchie, just 1.5 kilometres away, Macchie boasts a well stocked general shop. The village also has a local bar, the Arco Baleno, a 20 minute walk from the villa . Amelia is at about 8 Km far from Macchie. has several supermarkets, food shops, banks and cash machines. The staple foodstuffs are reminiscent of those stocked by expensive delicatessens outside of Italy. In Amelia and nearby there are several restaurants offering typical Umbrian cuisine at reasonable prices, a destination restaurant and one offering a coeliac menu. Food is very important here. Italian life is centered around the piazza, or square, and table
Distance from cities and attractions : Casa Helen offers a perfect base for exploring Italian’s capital Rome, which is just a 40 minute train journey from the Orte train station. It is also located very close to the many picturesque hilltop medieval towns of Umbria. Spoleto, Todi and Orvieto are less than an hour’s drive away. Slightly further afield are many other famous towns such as Assisi, Siena, Arezzo, Urbino and Florence .Over the duration of the year there are various local festivals (Sagra) celebrating local food, wine, and medieval traditions. There are also numerous cultural events and music festivals such as the world-renowned Umbrian Jazz festival in Perugia, a favourite location for art lovers and chocoholics.
